			<![CDATA[
So, it's Saturday night. And I'm coding. And I don't mind. I think I need to see a shrink (but if this is a Catch 22, I guess I don't! :S). Well, we've transitioned to the new server and things seems to be running smoothly overall. For those of you who still have problems accessing the site (i.e. you get the message "page not found") it could be an issue with your ISP still using the wrong IP address from our old DNS (yeah, the Domain Name Server got updated but normally after 24hrs the proxy's should have automatically updated this data). You could try: In Windows: Go to the "START" menu and click on the "RUN" button, then type: ipconfig /flushdns Now hit Now restart your computer and internet connection. In terms of server performance stats, things look a lot healthier now though hopefully, and more importantly, you will have noticed a significant improvement in performance. Because of this, we can finally (!) roll out the buddies widget. It's not quite web2.0 but I think it acts reasonably like it. We hope you like it. In addition, following on from a suggestion from BeakerSt and taking inspiration from our veteran shutterchance member Subys, we've also included a widget entitled "LIKEY". Basically, this will allow you to tag in shutterchance pics you particularly liked. The concept's not fully developed but as opposed to the buddies thing, we thought might as well put it out there and see the response. Right, I'm off to see Troy (I know, I know - it's just I never got round to it until tonight. btw, 300 looks pretty coool). Feel free to comment/feedback your thoughts on these new widgets either here or on the discussion forums. //John P.S. We know the left hand side is getting a bit crowded and Jide is close to finishing an even more minimalist template. Addendum: I'm such an attention craver, I've extended this post to Sunday :P

This was greatly thanks to BeakerSt who helped test out and debug the system. To access the forums, go either to forums.shutterchance.com or click on the link at the top left of your photoblog (i.e. discussion forums). As a shutterchance member you are automatically subscribed to this (same username and password as for your photoblog account). In these forums you can continue conversations you have started in a shutterchance photoblog, talk about equipment, share tips and tricks, upload images and more. So people, start foruming!

winner of the second and final of the 2 weekly e-card competition/lottery: SUBY He will be contacted within 2 weeks time to receive the £100. But two high profile winners! Reza and now Suby: Wow! I have to admit I didn't quite believe it myself and today I've been datamining (yes, rather geeky :D) and have been amused to see a couple of trends that I would like to share with you: about 85% of people sending were shutterchance members over 50% of e-cards sent came from 8 people Hopefully, for those who sent e-cards you will have noticed an increase in traffic and people visiting your photoblog - which was ultimately our goal for this competition/lottery. Anyway, we've used up that cash so no more of this for the meantime. On a separate note, you may have noticed that this blog has been quiet for the past couple of days (yes, I know you visit this blog diligently). The reason is that we've been developing our own forum - from scratch! In hindsight, don't ask me why (there were a couple of features we wanted incorporated e.g. automatically logging into forum if logged in to your photoblog) and we should be making it accessible to all some time this week. //John

Evolution is a good thing. At least that's my excuse for all the tweaks on the comments form. We've taken onboard your suggestions and...ummm...comments (:D) and come up with what we're currently testing on Jide's photoblog alakija.shutterchance.com. Look forward to your thoughts. The second development is something that digitalmike rightfully vocalised - allowing users to set a default setting in the preferences for the ShMood. So, we've implemented it. Except, as the code was introduced in the same version as the new blog look, you will only have access to it from tommorrow/day-after-tommorrow - d'oh!

As I said to BeakerSt - it's just my luck: thought I would improve one thing before going to bed last night; tested all fine, next day find out BIG bug. And the cause? Something that shouldn't happen appeared to suddenly normally happen. It's been fixed but REALLY sorry for the problems it has caused you guys. I blame Jide though - because...give me a minute and I'll come up with a good reason.

So, it seems that implementing the hide/unhide comments option wasn't to everybody's liking - damn. The idea behind it was to keep the focus on the photo as the page was beginning to get cluttered (and there are still 2 more links we want placed on the page). Admittedly, some other people like it (that's why we applied it in the first place). Once suggestion going round is to make it an option in the preferences. The only problem with that is there will be a noticeable inconsistency between sites and this could detract from the ease of using the site. thoughts?

winner of the first of 2 weekly e-card competition/lottery: REZA So, congratulations, to Reza (a shutterchance member no less!). He will be contacted within 2 weeks time to receive the £100. Just to let you know, we had 186 ecards sent over this first round and no one complaining of spam so everyone sending e-cards behaved well -phew!-cheers. Don't forget, the second -and final- round has already started, so send e-cards like crazy for a chance to win £100! Now after that excitement, you may be wondering what this domain is about. Well, as we're still continously developing new features (which are hopefully benefiting the users) and the members directory page is running out of space (you may have noticed some rather cryptic messages on updates). This, along with the fact we want to allow you, the photobloggers, easier access to providing input and thoughts on shutterchance, we have therefore created this blog! As you can tell it's in essence a dehydrated version of the photoblog system for ease of use (and we didn't really have the time to develop from the ground up a blogging system ;)). I'll endeavour to update this regularly and will principally be talking about the technical side of developing the site. Please do feel free to comment and pose questions. That's about it for me. //John
